Ocren — Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the iOS application "Ocren" (the "App") provided by the Ocren operations team ("we", "us"). By installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
The App allows you to photograph pages of printed or electronic books, extract text via OCR, and save, view, and organize that text locally on your device as personal reading notes.
2. License
We grant you a personal, non-commercial, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App in accordance with these Terms. All rights, title, and interest in the App remain with us or our licensors.
3. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, or otherwise tamper with the App;
- copy, redistribute, transfer, lease, or sublicense the App to any third party;
- exploit any vulnerability, attempt unauthorized access, or otherwise attack the App;
- use the App in any way that infringes the copyright, privacy, or other rights of another person;
- use the App for any unlawful purpose or activity, or any activity we deem inappropriate.
4. Content Rights
You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights — including any permissions required from copyright owners — to photograph and OCR-process the content you capture with the App. We are not responsible for any use you make of the text extracted through the App.
5. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions
- The App offers a subscription that removes advertising (¥100 per month or ¥1,000 per year). Charges are processed by Apple through your Apple ID.
- Unless you cancel, the subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period. To cancel, open Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Refund eligibility and any refunds are handled by Apple. Please submit refund requests at https://reportaproblem.apple.com.
- All in-app purchases are also subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
6. Data Storage
Notes, books, and other content you create in the App are stored locally on your device and, if you enable iCloud sync, in your own iCloud Drive. We have no direct access to your content, and we do not guarantee its preservation or integrity. We strongly recommend exporting your data periodically via the "Export as JSON" feature for backup.
7. Disclaimers
- The App is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including availability, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement of third-party rights.
- We do not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of OCR results, automatic page-number detection, or cover-image search results.
- To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time without prior notice. Updated Terms take effect when posted on this support site. Your continued use of the App after such posting constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
9. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute arising from your use of the App are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance.
